形態特徵

• Medium-sized Evergreen trees; trunk about 18 m tall, 35 cm across; bark gray; branchlets nearly glabrous, terete, with lenticels.
• Leaves alternate, coriaceous, oblong, obovate or broadly lanceolate, 6-13 cm long, 3-5.5 cm broad, acute at both ends, entire, somewhat revolute, glabrous above, glaucous-glabrescent beneath, midrib slightly concave, impressed above, elevated beneath, lateral veins 5-6 pairs, slightly indistinct above, prominent beneath, reticulate veinlets slightly visible above, distinct beneath; petioles 0.8-1.2 cm long, sparsely pubescent becoming glabrescent after.
• Inflorescences cymose-paniculate, axillary or terminal; peduncles 3 cm long, short hairy; flowers turbinate; tepals 6, oblong to ovate, 1.3 mm long, tomentose on both sides; fertile stamens 9, filaments 1 mm long, villous, eglandular, anthers introrse, 2-celled, 3rd whorl of stamens glandular, anthers extrorse, 4th whorl staminodia, 0.8 mm long, sparsely villous, long ovoid; ovary ovoid-oblong, glabrous, style ca. 1.1 mm long, glabrous.
• Fruit ovoid, 1.2-1.5 cm long, 0.8-1 cm broad, black, acutish-pointed at apex, with 12 longitudinal ridges.

物候

flowering May to July; maturing November to December.

分布

• 台灣 : in broad-leaved forests from 500 to 1,500 m throughout the Island.
• 世界 : South China.
